Germany’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) import capacity is poised to surge by up to five billion cubic meters (bcm) following the recent arrival of the cutting-edge floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Energos Force at the bustling port of Stade. This groundbreaking addition marks the inaugural unit established in Stade and the fourth of its kind in Germany, all strategically introduced in the wake of Russia’s incursion into Ukraine.

Deutsche Energy Terminals (DET), the state-owned LNG terminal operator, proudly announced the seamless arrival of the FSRU at the AVG pier situated in the bustling industrial port of Stade-Bützfleth on March 15. The vessel is slated to undergo several weeks of rigorous test operations before transitioning into full-scale operations. As a precursor to the FSRU’s arrival, DET executed the completion of a state-of-the-art jetty at the tail end of the previous year, further solidifying DET’s role as the operator of the floating LNG terminal in collaboration with a myriad of esteemed service providers.

Emphasizing the paramount significance of the 174,000-cubic meter FSRU, the company underscores its pivotal role in fortifying the security of gas supply and ensuring price stability not only in Germany but throughout the entirety of Europe. Originally christened as Transgas Force and boasting an impressive length of 965 feet (294 meters), the vessel was meticulously crafted in 2021. It was successfully procured from Dynagas, a prominent entity from Greece, in January of this year by Energos Infrastructure, a US-based joint venture spearheaded by industry giants Apollo and New Fortress Energy. The vessel, which boasts a weight of 94,361 deadweight tons, underwent a seamless transformation from its prior cargo operations into the state-of-the-art FSRU configuration in the Netherlands.
